Camarillo, Ventura County
Cal State Channel Islands opened in 2002 on the grounds of the former Camarillo State Hospital, which operated from 1936 to 1997. The university kept the red-tiled Mission Revival buildings and courtyards of the old institution. The campus lies a few miles south of central Camarillo at the foot of the Santa Monica Mountains.
